Viqueens Run-Rule Loretto on Senior Night

UNIONVILLE, Tenn. – The Community Viqueens (23-6, 7-0) picked up their 14th-consecutive victory in a run-rule win over Loretto (3-16, 0-7), 11-0 after five innings, on Monday’s Senior Night.

“This group is special. They’re all individually great kids,” Viqueens’ Head Coach Cam Farrell said postgame, “The big thing is that they love each other. This group of seniors takes care of each other. They really enjoy each other, they lead by example, and they’re all great students.. It makes things really easy for me. It’s been really easy for me to coach the last several years because of this group.”

Annie Prince – one of seven Community seniors – pitched 5.0 innings and struck out 12 batters, giving up just a single hit and no runs on 64 pitches. Prince also did major damage in the batters’ box, going 2-for-2 with a triple, a home run, and two RBIs.

At the plate, the Viqueens compiled 15 hits, led by Anna Haskins’ perfect 3-for-3 performance in the leadoff spot. Kamryn Farrell went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two doubles, Gracie Daniel was 2-for-3, and Kailani Allen finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a double. Mattie Maxey was 1-for-2 with a walk, an RBI, and a double, Haylee Webb went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Alana Tate finished 1-for-2.

“They all want to do well, and they take the time to practice extra on their own,” Farrell said, “Anna Haskins has a hitting facility at her house, and a lot of them will head over there without me knowing and just go hit. That’s the kind of work ethic that they’re passing down. If you want something, you can’t be crying in the dugout, you’ve got to work to figure it out and then go for it.

The Viqueens put up a four-spot in the bottom of the first inning after Haskins led off with a double before Farrell replaced her at second with an RBI-double. Daniels singled on a bunt, Allen singled home Farrell for a 2-0 lead, then Prince delivered an RBI-double that allowed both runners to score after a fielding error in right field for a 4-0 lead.

Neither team scored in the second, then the Viqueens got back to work in the third with Allen’s leadoff double. Haylee Webb singled her home, and then Webb stole third before coming home to score on a passed ball for a 6-0 lead. Annie Prince followed that up with a moonshot over the left-field wall to extend the lead to 7-0.

In the fourth, Community put together the three runs needed to trigger the fifth-inning run-rule and tacked on one more for good measure. First, Farrell doubled, then Daniels singled before a wild pitch allowed both runs to score to take a 9-0 lead. Maxey worked a walk, Webb singled Maxey over to third before stealing second, and then Prince’s sacrifice-fly drove Maxey home. Finally, Webb came home to score on a passed ball to take a commanding 11-0 lead heading into the fifth where Prince promptly struck out the side.

Community is currently scheduled to travel to Cascade on Friday with the District 9-AA Tournament Semifinals set to begin on Monday, May 4th. As the No. 1 overall seed, the Viqueens will play the winner of the play-in game between No. 4 seed Chapel Hill and No. 5 seed Loretto.
