LORETTO, Tenn. – The Community Viqueens (6-3, 1-0) scored 13 runs in five innings to pick up their first win in District 9-AA play in a 13-0 win after five innings at Loretto (0-4, 0-1) on Friday.
Annie Prince got the start in the circle for Community, and Loretto found her to be unhittable as she pitched 5.0 no-hit innings with 15 strikeouts and just a single walk on 63 pitches.
For the Lady Mustangs, Mallory Corbin pitched 3.0 innings, giving up eight runs – seven earned – on seven hits and five walks with four strikeouts on 87 pitches as the Community offense found its groove. In total, the visitors tallied 13 hits with four of them being for extra bases.
The Viqueens scored one run in the first, four in the second, and two in the third to take a commanding 7-0 lead after three innings. After knocking Corbin from the game, Community kept up the offensive pressure against Loretto’s McKenna Dickens after she came on in relief. Dickens got the next six outs, giving up five earned runs on six hits with two strikeouts on 38 pitches.
Community scored two runs in the fourth and then four runs in the fifth to reach run-rule territory, and after Prince sat down the Lady Mustangs’ offense in short order to secure the win.
At the plate for the Viqueens, Anna Haskins went 1-for-2 with a walk, Alana Tate batted 2-for-4 with three RBIs, and Mattie Maxey finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a triple. Haylee Webb also recorded a triple as she went 1-for-4 with one RBI, Gracie Daniel went 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, and two RBIs, and Ryleigh Lassiter finished 1-for-2 with two RBIs. Kamryn Farrell went 1-for-1 with one RBI and a walk.
Off the bench, Victoria Wells went 1-for-2 and Brooklyn Yoes finished 1-for-1.
The Viqueens host Cascade in the ‘Battle of Bedford’ on Thursday, Mar. 26, at 5:30 p.m.
