Viqueens Secure Top Seed in District 9-AA Tournament With Shutout Win in Chapel Hill

CHAPEL HILL, Tenn. – After late-inning heroics in the first matchup on Apr. 7, the Community Viqueens (17-6, 6-0) took care of business early and often to complete the season sweep over District 9-AA rival Chapel Hill (10-12, 2-5), 6-0, on Thursday night.

The Viqueens’ offense continued to roll, tallying 14 hits at the plate. Despite Community committing a pair of errors in the field, Annie Prince pitched yet another complete-game shutout. Prince threw all 7.0 innings, giving up just three hits and three walks while striking out five batters on 95 pitches.

Meanwhile, her counterpart in the circle, Taylor Moreland, pitched 7.0 complete innings, giving up six runs – five earned – on 14 hits and one walk with six strikeouts on 131 pitches.

Community got the party started almost immediately with four runs in the top of the first inning. The visiting Viqueens scored the final two runs of the game in the top of the third.

At the plate for the Viqueens, Anna Haskins led off going 2-for-4 with a run scored, Kamryn Farrell went 2-for-4 with a run scored, and Gracie Daniel finished 1-for-3 with a run scored, two RBIs, a walk, and a double. Mattie Maxey went 2-for-4, Haylee Webb was 1-for-4 with a run scored, and Kailani Allen finished 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI. Prince went 1-for-4, Ryleigh Lassiter was 1-for-4 with an RBI, and Alana Tate finished 2-for-3 with an RBI.

For the Lady Rockets, Madelyn Ille went 2-for-3 at the plate while McKenzie Stout was 1-for-3 for Chapel Hill’s only base hits.

With the win, the Community Viqueens secured the District 9-AA regular season title and the No. 1 overall seed in the District 9-AA Tournament.

Community hosts Loretto on Tuesday for Senior Night before ending the season at Cascade in the ‘Battle of Bedford.’
