Viqueens Split Season Series in Dominant Win Over Huntland

UNIONVILLE, Tenn. –  The Community Viqueens (9-7) welcomed in the new year with an impressive 73-45 win over the Huntland Lady Hornets (10-4) on Friday night.

After upsetting the Viqueens, 38-34, on December 9th, the Lady Hornets were unable to hold down Community the second time around, giving up 44 points in the second half in the 28-point loss. Anna Haskins scored a game-high 24 points on six three-pointers for Community, including 19 points in the second half. Alyssa White chipped in with 13 points of her own with 11 coming in the last two quarters. As a team, the Viqueens connected on nine three-pointers.

For Huntland, Riley Maxwell scored a team-high 15 points, but she was the only Lady Hornet to reach double figures. 

Early on, the Lady Hornets managed to stay within arms’ length, trailing by just three points, 11-8, at the end of the opening period. However, in the second quarter, the hometown Viqueens began to pull away, outscoring the visitors, 18-5, to take a 29-13 lead into the halftime locker room. Sara Flannagan led the way for the hosts with all seven of her points coming in the second quarter alone.

In the second half, Community maintained its offensive hot streak, outscoring the Lady Hornets, 20-13, to take a 49-26 lead heading into the final frame. Haskins led the way with 11 points in the period, including a trio of triples.

Finally, the Viqueens finished out strong with their highest-scoring output coming in the fourth quarter, outscoring Huntland, 24-19, to reach the final margin of victory, 73-45. Community saw seven people score at least two points in the final eight minutes of play en route to the blowout win.

The Viqueens improve to 9-7 overall. Community hits the road on Tuesday night, traveling to Moore County with tip-off set for 6:00 p.m.
