UNIONVILLE, Tenn – The Community Viqueens got 25 points from Anna Haskins on Wednesday in their eight-point home win over the Central Magnet Lady Tigers of Murfreesboro, 54 - 46, in a game that was rescheduled from Friday.
Community’s Alyssa White banked in six points in the opening five minutes of the first quarter to help push the Viqueen’s lead to 9-8. At the one and a half minute mark Community’s Haskins pulled up at the top of the key to drain her first triple of the game to give the Viqueens the lead back, 12-11. Right before the buzzer, Haskins tossed up another three-pointer to complete her eight-point quarter to lead Community out of the period with a 16-13 lead. Madison Stanley hit seven of the 13 for the Lady Tigers.
The second quarter started slow with both teams exchanging a few lay-ups, but Community never fell behind and continued to play strong defense against Central Magnet by holding them to only eight in the quarter. Haskins had added another basket and foul shot to her growing total while White continued to build the lead with five more points of her own. By halftime, Community led the Lady Tigers, 28-21.
After coming back out on the floor to start the second half, Community relaxed their defense a bit, allowing Central Magnet to tie the game at 32-32 when Lady Tiger’s Claire Johnson netted a three-pointer about two minutes into the period, prompting a timeout from Cody Pierce. Haskins came out of the timeout and swished in two more triples within seconds while teammates White and Sara Flanagan added two each as part of a 10-0 run to propel the Viqueens lead back up to 42-32. Community ended the third quarter ahead, 48-28. Haskins, between threes, twos, and foul shots had amassed 14 of the Viqueen’s 20 point rally.
The Lady Tigers tried to get points on the board in the last quarter, but most shots were rushed and fell short thanks to the stingy Viqueens’ defense. Central Magnet scored 13 to Community’s six points in the period, but it was too little too late. The Viqueens hit 11 of 16 for the game from the charity stripe. Haskins ended the game with 25 points and White ended the game with 15 for Community’s eight point win, 54-46.
Community will travel to York Institute to play next on Saturday at 6:00 p.m.
