CELINA, Tenn. – The Community Viqueens (14-12, 4-4) won their third-consecutive game on Friday after taking down Class A Clay County (10-14, 2-6), 51-43, to close the regular season.
The Viqueens won the first matchup back on Dec. 12 at home, 47-42, and managed to complete the season sweep behind a team-high 14 points from Savannah Pearson on four threes as well as 12 points from both Alyssa White and Anna Haskins.
Meanwhile, Ella Eads was borderline unstoppable for the Lady Bulldogs, finishing with a game-high 24 points on the night. Baylor Walden was her only teammate to flirt with double-figure scoring, chipping in with nine points.
Early on, Eads got off to a hot start, knocking down a three and finishing with eight of Clay County’s 13 points as the Lady Bulldogs took a 13-9 lead at the end of one. In the second stanza, the Viqueens finally were able to find their rhythm on offense. Pearson knocked down a three to lead the way with five points while Haskins and White both scored four apiece to outscore the hosts, 14-8, and take a 23-21 lead heading into the halftime locker room.
Coming out for the second half, Community continued to roll, outscoring Clay County 16-6 in the third quarter to take a double-digit lead heading into the final frame, 39-27. Pearson knocked down two treys while White scored four more points, but the real story was the Viqueens’ defense holding Eads to just four points in the period.
The Lady Bulldogs attempted to mount one final push, knocking down four threes in the fourth quarter alone, but the Viqueens managed to hold the hosts off thanks to a Pearson triple as well as four points from Haskins. Despite being outscored 16-12, Community held on to end the regular season with an eight-point victory.
