Joe William Sons, 88, of Lynchburg, died September 4, 2025, after an extended illness. He was born February 3, 1937, in Moore County; a retired 50-year law enforcement veteran; a Veteran of the U.S. Navy and a member of Emmanuel Church Pentecostal.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard Levoy Sons Sr. and Daisy Flossie Burns Sons; a son, Ricky Joe Sons; grandsons, Travis Wade Sons, Tyler Andrew Sons; two sisters, Jean Vaughn and Faye Carter.
Joe is survived by his wife of 70 years, Viola Mae Powell Sons; his children, Timothy Ray (Regina) Sons, Dennis Troy (Tammy) Sons, Anthony Wade (Sandra) Sons, Connie Sons Adams (Ron), Sandi Sons Carter (James); brother, Leonard Levoy Sons Jr. (Kathy); sisters, Alice Nichols, Sue (Alvin) Clanton; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held 4:00 P.M. Sunday, September 7th, at Hillcrest Funeral home Rev. Ron Adams officiating. Burial will follow at Hickory Hill Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2:00 P.M.
