Ricky L. McConnell, age 67, of Shelbyville, TN., passed from this life suddenly
Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at his residence. Per the family’s wishes his remains will be cremated.
Ricky McConnell was born on June 20, 1958, in Shelbyville, Tennessee, to the late Edward Vernon McConnell and Milbrey Phillips McConnell. A devoted public servant, Ricky dedicated 32 years to the Shelbyville City Fire Department, rising through the ranks from Firefighter and Inspector to Fire Chief. His commitment to service extended beyond his community—he proudly served his country for 33 years in the Army National Guard, including two deployments during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Ricky was also a faithful member of Southside Church of Christ, where he found strength and fellowship throughout his life.
Survivors include his devoted wife of 37 years, Valerie Cook McConnell; children, Phillip (Britney) McConnell and Stasha McConnell all of Shelbyville;
grandchildren, Chloe McConnell, Kirstin McConnell, Avery McConnell, Elizabeth
“Lizzy” McConnell, sister; Judy (Charlie) Caffey of Murfreesboro, Madlyn (Barry) Lester of Lascassas, TN., and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services were held Sunday, August 31, 2025, in the chapel of Doak-Howell Funeral Home with Pastors Tim Gunels and Yram Lopez officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society or Wounded Warriors Project.
